The Great AI debate of 2025.

August of this year, it was revealed that the International Rice Festival poster was created using AI, sparking outrage amongst those that cherish culture. Then the mayor of Crowley proudly stated that it in fact did not matter that the poster was AI because posters aren't art and no one cares.

Despite decades of tradition showcasing local artwork on Festival posters, this ordeal proved once again that there are people who only claim to value what makes this area unique. Louisiana, Cajun art is a genre that spans from folk to contemporary. These artists create the imagery which we use to define ourselves as a people. Highlighting our connection to the land and eachother into their work. Ai distills all that down into a sloppy mess without any nuance or understanding of what it means to be part of the Cajun culture.

I put forth my design, as a small act of rebellion. Not that I think It's amazing or anything, but because I'm fighting to keep Louisiana's artistic traditions alive, in any little way that I can. Pencil, paint and paper with digital lettering because I give a shit. You will never catch me stooping to the level of an AI artist, and that's a promise.
